Academic Education and Career
Aslan Yu. Tsivadze graduated from the V.I. Lenin Georgian Polytechnic Institute in 1966. In 1970, he defended his thesis titled “Research of the IR absorption spectra of the coordination compounds of certain metals with XCN (X-O, S, Se) groups.”
In 1978, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the “Spectrochemistry of amide complexes of metals.”
Aslan Yu. Tsivadze worked at the All-Russian Research Institute of Optical Physics Measurements in Moscow and subsequently at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
Since 1997, he has been the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 1999, he has been the Deputy Director, and then the Director of the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2002, he has been the Director of the A.N. Frumkin Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry of the RAS and the Head of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Technologies (since 2015 – RTU MIREA).
Since 2003, Aslan Yu. Tsivadze has been an Academician at the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2013, he has held the position of the Academic Secretary at the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science at the same institution.
Research Interests
His research addresses:
– Spectrochemistry of coordination compounds of metals;
– Chemistry and technology of crown compounds;
– Separation of isotopes;
– Chemistry and technology of crown-substituted phthalocyanines and porphyrins;
– Supramolecular chemistry;
– Molecular machines;
– Materials for electrochemical energy and molecular electronics;
– Separation of elements and processing of radioactive waste.
Aslan Yu. Tsivadze is the Chief Scientific Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the Mendeleev Congresses in General and Applied Chemistry, Chairman of the Expert Council on Grants of the President of the Russian Federation, and Coordinator of the Russian-French Laboratory. He is also a Member of the Presidium of the D.I. Mendeleev Russian Chemical Society and an International Member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences.
He is the Editor-in-Chief of the journals Physical Chemistry of the Surface and Protection of Materials, Corrosion: Materials, Protection as well as a member of the Editorial Board of Tonkie Khimicheskie Tekhnologii [Fine Chemical Technologies].
Publications and scientific guidance
Aslan Yu. Tsivadze is the author of about 400 published works, including 5 books. He is also a holder of over 60 patents. He developed a unique lecture course in supramolecular chemistry and provided scientific supervision and guidance to 3 doctors and more than 20 Candidates of Sciences.
Awards
Aslan Yu. Tsivadze has been awarded numerous prizes and honors, including:
– State Prizes of the Russian Federation and Georgia and three Prizes of the Government of the Russian Federation, Chugaev Prizes of the RAS;
– The Order of Friendship and the Order of Honor;
– The Gold Medal of the Italian Chemical Society;
– The title of Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation;
– The title of Honorary Professor of the D.I. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (2008).
