Academic Education and Career
Zinesh S. Abisheva graduated from the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Technology, Moscow, Soviet Union. She held the positions of the Head of the laboratory, Head of the Hydrometallurgy Department, and Deputy Director of the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Between 1987 and 2011, Zinesh S. Abisheva worked in the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From 2011 until 2016, she was the President of the Center of Earth, Metallurgy and Beneficiation Sciences. In years 2000–2003, she was the Project Director of the International Association for the Promotion of Cooperation with Scientists from the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union. Between 2005 and 2009, she held the position of the Project Director of the International Science and Technology Center.
Since 2016, she has been the Director of Mining and Metallurgical Institute of the Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K.I. Satpayev.
Zinesh S. Abisheva is a member of editorial boards of a number of international journals, including Hydrometallurgy (“Elsevier”), Tsvetnye Metally, News of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Series of Geology and Technical Sciences, Tonkie Khimicheskie Tekhnologii [Fine Chemical Technologies], and Herald of the Kola Science Center of RAS (Russia).
Research Interests
Research conducted by Zinesh S. Abisheva addresses the complex processing of mineral raw materials and concerns the chemical technology of rare scattered elements. She developed new technologies for the extraction of gallium, radiogenic osmium, and rhenium, which enabled production of chemical reagents from unconventional sources of raw materials, such as anthropogenic products of copper-smelting, products of phosphorus and aluminum manufacture as well as materials obtained in the energy industry. Notably, Zinesh S. Abisheva led and took an active part in the first industrial production of the osmium-187 isotope from rhenium-containing uterine solutions. She introduced the method involving electrodialysis of non-conforming products, which resulted in the formation of rhenium acid and high-purity ammonium perrhenate. Zinesh S. Abisheva also developed local processing technology for rhenium-containing mother solutions as well as interphase rhenium- and osmium-containing formulations.
Publications
Zinesh S. Abisheva is the author of 630 scientific works, including two monographs, one whitepaper, and 86 copyright certificates. She is also an author of several patents and provisional patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 7 of which were put into production. More than 70 of her scientific works are published in English in prestigious international scientific journals and proceedings of conferences and congresses. She supervised 10 master's dissertations and two PhD dissertations.
Awards
Zinesh S. Abisheva was presented with the “Inventor of the USSR” (1987) award, the state scientific grant for scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the development of science and technology (2000–2002). She was also awarded “10th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2001) and “20th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2011) medals as well as the Honorary Certificate of the President of Kazakhstan (2005), Diploma of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Kazakhstan (2005), Diploma and the Commemorative Medal of the Academician I.I. Chernyaev “For outstanding contribution to the development of chemistry, analysis, and technology of platinum metals” (2006, the Russian Academy of Sciences). She was given a Diploma awarded to the most quoted Kazakh author by industries (2010). Zinesh S. Abisheva was nominated and won the “Best Inventor” award at the “Shapagat-2011” contest. In 2011, she was also awarded the K.I. Satpayev Prize.
Zinesh S. Abisheva is the expert in metallurgy of non-ferrous, rare, and precious metals. She specializes in the development of technological schemes for extraction of non-ferrous and rare metals from mineral and anthropogenic materials in metallurgy.
